Kila Vas

Type: Location — Central City Status: Canon (confirmed by creator)

Overview

Kila Vas is the central city in Maf, located on the Norihing continent — the primary point where the majority of players enter the game. Functions as a major hub with orbital shipyards, making it a natural setting for ship refits, repairs, and general player activity (consistent with its role in The Hauler's Gambit, where the Bannigans refit and repair The Long Shot there).

Confirmed as the site of the Kila Vas Market (mafstarfleetbattles.com/market), the game's central marketplace hub — see World Bank & Loans for the loan application flow that routes through this Market page.

A photo caption from 3,000 Corporations places a "Hotel Rasmosen" in the "northern sector of Kila Vas, Rwechyn Oasis" — suggesting Kila Vas itself sits at or incorporates a desert oasis. Possible (unconfirmed) connection to the Shapas Desert region.

Political Character

✅ Confirmed by creator: Kila Vas's assertive, militant political and foreign-policy character is attributed to the influx of over 10 million military personnel during World War 3. The city sees itself as a "shining city on a hill" — believing its own government is the ideal all peoples and nations should aspire to emulate.

Government Structure

The "City-State" of Kila Vas has a President-Congress structure. ⚠️ Per the creator, this is a separate fact from — not part of the same framing as — Jonesboro's own dual City-State/City governing structure (see Open Questions for that development arc).

"Old" vs. "New" Kila Vas — Real Estate Rule-Set Convention (clarified by creator)

✅ This is a gameplay convention for players buying land or building structures in Kila Vas, not strictly a claim about the city's historical development. Players may buy and build in "Old" Kila Vas under that period's rule set, while a different rule set governs real estate purchase/development from 1988 to 2000 ("New" Kila Vas). The two periods still roughly correspond to real chronological eras (pre-1988 vs. 1988–2000), but the "Old"/"New" distinction exists primarily as a real estate mechanic, not a claim that the whole city was architecturally or culturally divided into two discrete zones.

  • "Old" Kila Vas: 1980–1987 ruleset. Coastal/industrial-focused — seaports, airports, refineries, ore processing, desalinization, factories, shipyards, rail infrastructure. Contains the "Old" Financial District (~300 buildings total).
  • "New" Kila Vas: 1988–2000 ruleset. Expands citywide, excluding Old Kila Vas and existing corporate land claims. Standard land parcel size: 62,720 sq meters (112m × 520m).

This still gives Kila Vas a useful internal chronology, and the 1988 transition still lines up with World War 3 (a Norihing continental war, 1976–1987) ending in 1987 — the "New" ruleset begins the same year WW3-era international order-keeping begins (see Empire and Janastian Warhawks).

Complete Political Lineage (confirmed via "MACOFS and the MACOFS Treaty")

Kila Vas has served as the capital of an unbroken succession of political entities:

  1. United Kaolsan Emirates (pre-1976) — a confederation of four Kaolsani city-states
  2. Kila Vas Military District (1976–1984) — during World War 3
  3. Helvatica (1984–2000) — granted independence in 1984, named after General Johovus Helvatica
  4. New World Maf Government (NWMG) (2000–2007) — capital of a 300+-nation unified government, formed Jan 1, 2000
  5. MACOFS (2007–present) — capital of the first true starnation on Maf, formed Jan 1, 2007

In November 2006, four small nations bordering Kila Vas to the north (Teful, Haniah, Tisivet, Dagorb) voted to remain with the new government and were incorporated into Kila Vas's city limits — making Kila Vas the largest city by both area and population on the entire planet of Maf. ✅ Population confirmed at 3.3 trillion (refined precisely to 3.312 trillion via separate urban-planning/demographic modeling, fully consistent with the creator's authoritative MACOFS member-states spreadsheet) — reflecting Kila Vas's status as a full starnation-level entity within MACOFS in its own right, alongside its role as the confederation's capital.

Demographics & Urban Planning

✅ Confirmed via detailed creator-provided modeling:

  • Resident population: 3.312 trillion
  • Visitors/tourists present at any given time: ~2.3 trillion — reflecting Kila Vas's status as probably the most-visited destination per capita in the galaxy, and the sports/entertainment capital of the galaxy (casinos, luxury/resort hotels, famous golf courses, horse and car racing, an archaeology park, an adjacent national park, farms, ranches, orchards, vineyards, beaches, hiking, cliff diving, surfing)
  • Downtown: a 1,100-mile (north-south) by 780-mile (east-west) rectangle — roughly 50% dense "small city" style development (buildings 20-100 stories, ~21 ft/story), 20% suburban homes, 15% undeveloped/mountainous
  • Work-from-home rate: 55% of jobs — a major factor in the city's residential-vs-office space allocation (baseline split roughly 51.25% residential / 48.75% office of rentable space)
  • Energy: every building in Kila Vas is required to be fully self-sufficient in its own energy needs

Full Daily Headcount Model

✅ Confirmed full model, including transient (non-resident) daily load:

  • Residents present: 3.312 trillion (57% of daily headcount)
  • Visitors present: 2.300 trillion (40%)
  • Non-resident inbound commuters (workers living outside the metro): ~169 billion
  • Transit-hub passengers (snapshot — layovers, transfers, day-trippers not counted among overnight visitors): ~32.8 billion
  • Total transient non-resident daily load: ~202 billion (3%)
  • Total daily headcount (average day): ≈ 5.8 trillion people

Regional distribution of the ~202 billion daily transient commuters: Financial District & Concourses (business/convention traffic) 35% (~71B); Casino Strip & Downtown entertainment 25% (~50B); Floating Cities/Sports Center/Luxury City 15% (~30B); Rwechyn Oasis, beaches & theme parks (day-trippers) 15% (~30B); Spaceport/ transit-hub overflow 10% (~20B).

Infrastructure implications: peak daytime headcount (~5.8T) is the baseline figure for transit throughput, emergency services, and large-event surge capacity planning. Since every building is required to be energy self-sufficient, central-grid peak capacity is less of a system-wide concern — but transport hubs, the spaceport, and intermodal transfer nodes still require centralized, resilient multi-source power (on-site reactors, orbital power relays, local fusion farms, geothermal undersea collectors). Emergency evacuation capacity is planned for at least 10% of daily headcount in high-risk zones (~580B people), scaled per-region rather than metro-wide.

Hourly transit-flow throughput (daily totals, arrivals + departures combined, distributed across 24-hour flow curves with morning/ afternoon/evening peaks): Spaceport ≈ 246 billion/day; Casino Strip ≈ 161 billion/day.

Currency Note — Resolved

"Kila Vas credits" (as used in The Hauler's Gambit) is non-canon nomenclature — a writing error, not in-universe slang. The corrected terminology:

  • Official currency name: Helvatica Dollar (named after the nation of Helvatica and General Johovus Helvatica — see that page for the full naming chain)
  • Public/colloquial name: Kila Vas Dollar (a nickname derived from the city, used informally by the public)

[STYLE NOTE for future material: any story text using "Kila Vas credits" should be corrected to "Helvatica Dollar" (formal) or "Kila Vas Dollar" (colloquial/dialogue use) in future editing passes.]

A Pre-Colonial Historical Layer — Kaolsan Founding & Conquest

✅ Kila Vas has always been a Kaolsan settlement, founded somewhere between 1300 BC and 1100 BC (exact date pending future source material). It was later conquered by Ejon Krino — this conquest is one of three events used to align the Calendar Accord of 1888. Scholars generally agree Krino's recorded conquest date is likely off by several weeks, possibly months — but the current calendar has fixed the "official" date of Kila Vas's capture as January 1, Year 1, the epoch point for the modern calendar era. This is a native/Kaolsan historical layer predating the Original Colonists' 1893 arrival, a separate thread from the Ark Royal story.

Founding & Early History (Additional Account)

✅ A separate dictated account gives a specific founding date: Kila Vas was inhabited beginning about 1150 BC, as a fishing village of about a dozen families — this falls within, and specifies, the "1300-1100 BC" range noted above. Over centuries it slowly grew into a caravan destination, where desert-manufactured goods were traded for fresh fish and mountain-grown produce and water (Kila Vas sits at the northern flank of a mountain range stretching over 3,000 miles south, dividing the west-coastal Mediterranean-climate region from the interior desert). By around 1940, the city held roughly 1.5 million people, with souks and markets drawing traders by sea from the north polar regions to the equator, and daily desert caravans. Terraced mountain agriculture supplied hot-climate produce; further south, an Alpine-climate stretch of the same range produced apples and wine grapes.

The Financial District and the KVDC

Beginning in the mid-1930s, city leaders established a Financial District about 3 miles east of the city proper, in the desert — 1 mile north-south, about 1/3 mile wide. Initially separated from the city by open desert (bisected by a single highway, later widened and joined by two more north-south highways and eventually two east-west highways), the district was allowed to grow organically; by the 1980s it held over 300 buildings (one to 30 stories, mostly 3-5), housing banks, investment firms, corporate headquarters, and trade/export- import businesses.

In 1964, the Kila Vas Development Commission (KVDC) was established, given authority and ownership over all undeveloped land within city limits to organize and plan development. See The Kila Vas Development Commission (KVDC) for its full regulatory history — including the 1980 mixed-use zoning requirement that transformed the Financial District from a nighttime "ghost town" into a 24-hour neighborhood, and the subsequent "Neighborhood Integrity" policy protecting each neighborhood's distinct cultural character from homogenizing development.
