Overview

Formally the "Empire of Xanydeo and Xanthus" (capital Xapata) — but the full formal name is unwieldy enough that it became known throughout history and across Norihing simply as "Empire." This is a deliberate in-universe naming convention, not an abbreviation error.

The Empire was the defending power in World War 3 (1976–1987), a continental war on Norihing instigated by the Desert Empire. As the war progressed, other Norihing nations allied to one side or the other. After the war, most nations were too exhausted to intervene abroad against rising secession, rebellion, piracy, and banditry — only the Empire and the paramilitary Janastian Warhawks rose to actively defend international law and order, fighting worldwide from 1988–2000 across Arctic, desert, jungle, and island terrain.

Confirmed via The Discovery of Peplle's Innovations: the Empire operates with two political seats — an Emperor based partly at San, in Xanthus (the southern capital), and a President based at Tev — consistent with the nation's full name, "Empire of Xanydeo and Xanthus."

The Lost Fleet Crisis and the Young Emperor

During the crisis surrounding The Empire's Lost Fleet, the Empire was led by an unusually young Emperor — appointed at just 44 — who ultimately ruled that no armed force would ever enter elven territory, declaring it inviolate despite intense pressure from his own First Admiral and public demonstrations.
