Overview

Peplle is the native Maf nation on whose territory the Original Colonists first made landfall after the Ark Royal's crash. Already independently documented in this archive via the Planetary Governments roster and as a MACOFS Treaty signatory — this article provides Peplle's first substantial narrative role.

First Contact History

The Original Colonists encamped on land belonging to local Peplle farmers and ranchers, who — along with coastal fishing villages — initially refused to sell their land. Three Peplle government representatives arrived riding tall, horse-like creatures to negotiate. Over several days, a deal was struck: the Peplle government would buy out a mostly uninhabited coastal peninsula from its private owners and cede the entire peninsula to the Colonists to use as they saw fit. The farmers and ranchers who'd worked that land relocated further inland, leaving behind only a few tools and three broken-down tractors.

This peninsula became the site of Jonesboro, founded and named for the Jones family — see that page for the city's founding details.

Peplle's Native Population

Peplle's people are part of Maf's native population (see Maf (Planet)) — ✅ revised height figures: men roughly 5.9 to 7+ feet tall, women roughly 5.6 to 6.7 feet tall.

Geography (confirmed via ChatGPT export material — "Quest Hooks for Maf")

✅ Climate confirmed: Peplle has a Mediterranean climate along its eastern coast, with a more temperate climate in its inland highlands. No jungles — an earlier draft description mentioning jungle terrain was a creator-caught error, corrected in the source conversation itself.

Empire's Discovery of Peplle's Innovations

The Empire's first real diplomatic/intelligence look into Peplle's technological advancement (trains, steam ships, electric lighting, and more) is told in The Discovery of Peplle's Innovations.
