The IFTR First Contact Crisis: The Surrender (Full Text, Part 2)

Type: Narrative — Canon History, Dramatized Scene (Full Text) Status: Canon (confirmed by creator) — full text preserved per archival standard

Direct continuation of The IFTR First Contact Crisis: July 17, 2005 (Part 1). This is the actual surrender scene — the pivotal moment behind the "lost war, won peace" outcome already documented on The Treaty of Starbase 17.

The Confrontation Deepens

The holographic image of the Emperor of the Empire appears beside the enemy fleet display: "General Jonas... General Akarin! I didn't expect to see you there. I am glad our future lies in both your able hands. General Jonas, what are we facing?" The President of the Empire's hologram appears beside him. Jonas briefs them — there's little to tell yet.

The Quarantine Room doors burst open: Jon Medaris, President of the NWMG, storms in. "What is the meaning of this!? Jonas!!! What are you doing here! I could have you court-martialed! Admiral! Why did you—" He's cut off by a comms tech reporting a burst transmission from Captain Harrison of the reinforcement fleet. Jonas says quietly, "Zarkof." Androve steps to Jonas's side; their eyes lock. Tammi Li closes the distance to her husband's shoulder.

Admiral Kong's Ultimatum

The message comes through — not from Captain Harrison directly, but patched: "This is Admiral Joltan Kong of the fleet of the Interstellar Federation of the Terran Republic." Gasps fill the room — unbroken, accented, but clear English. "I have destroyed 85 of your ships. Your ships are merely playtoys to me and my fleet. I count 151 other ships of yours hiding in the shadows." Jonas and Androve exchange a knowing look — either the enemy hasn't detected their stealth recon ships, or is deliberately not mentioning them; Jonas suspects the former.

Kong continues: "Surrender! — Or be destroyed." Gasps ripple through the room; a female tech begins weeping; someone mutters "Oh fuck!" — Akarin snaps "Decorum!" with little conviction. The message repeats in a metallic twang, then cycles through a dozen or more other languages.

The Emperor speaks one word: "Jonas."

The Stall

Jonas responds on the fleet channel: "We do not surrender. We buy time." He hails Kong: "Admiral Kong of the Terran Republic — this is General Jonas. We acknowledge your transmission. We request a single ten-minute window for a formal response from planetary command. We will not move any capital hulls or any fleet formations during that window." Kong grants it, clipped and amused: "You have ten minutes, General Jonas. Attempt to deceive and we will end you."

Jonas's immediate tactical orders (executed in under 60 seconds):

  1. Silent Spread — reinforcement fleet further disperses into 3-ship fire-teams, 100+ miles apart.
  2. Decoy/Beacon Grid — low-signature decoy beacons on 3 false approach vectors, to confuse the enemy's simultaneous-targeting algorithms.
  3. Stealth Recon Focus — high-fidelity telemetry dumps on the attack's energy-link geometry and post-attack residue.
  4. Electronic Cloak Burst — near-range active sensors go dark; passive only; controlled noise bursts mask fleet telemetry.
  5. Hail & Stall — Jonas publicly offers to send an unarmed envoy under a neutral transponder, requesting Kong hold fire during safe transit — a deliberate bargain to buy time and force Kong into showing public restraint.
  6. Fallback Preparation — jump/evac corridors to Bastion Points Alpha-Delta prepared; orbital defense batteries armed.
  7. Appearances — the Janastian Warhawks and heavy frigates present an aggressive visual posture on one vector (a controlled bluff) under strict no-engage orders.

Kong replies: "You have the temporary window. Send one unarmed craft with diplomatic markings. If you move fighters or structure, the window closes."

Standing Order Black Seven

The holographic image of the President-General of the Janastian Warhawks appears, nodding silently to Jonas. Jonas nods back and gives Medaris a hard look, who stammers, "What? What?"

Jonas removes a black metal capsule from his jacket, glances at Tammi Li (who cocks her head, confused), and snaps it in two with both hands. A holographic document swirls into being. Jonas reads:

"By order of his Royal Majesty the Emperor of the Empire. By order of the President of the Empire. By order of the President of the New World Maf Government."

He glances at Medaris, now speechless and wild-eyed. He continues:

"And by order of the President-General of the Janastian Warhawks. I, Perold Jonas, invoke 'Standing Order Black Seven, Alpha 20195.' I hereby accept and assume full and sole command of all the military forces of the Empire, of the New World Maf Government, and of the Janastian Warhawks."

✅ This confirms a pre-existing legal/military framework — Standing Order Black Seven — allowing Jonas to be granted sole emergency command over the three most powerful military forces on the planet, activated jointly by the Emperor, the Empire's President, the NWMG's President (Medaris, who is clearly not consulted or willing but bound by the Order's authority), and the Warhawks' President-General.

Jonas declares:

"Effective immediately, all strategic, tactical, and operational command decisions concerning the defense of Maf, its territories, and its peoples are under my direct control. Any orders or directives from any other source regarding fleet movements, planetary defenses, or engagement with the enemy are suspended until further notice. Any action taken without my authorization is null and void and will be treated as insubordination."

And, quieter, carrying like thunder: "We either survive together, or we die divided. And we will not die today."

The Order

Jonas turns to the comms technician: "Comms tech. Lieutenant Bradley is it? Tight burst beam to all commands of the three nations I just mentioned. White encryption. Send same to Jonesboro and Peplle military commands." He looks to the Emperor and the Empire's President; all three nod once. The holograms of the Emperor and President disappear.

Jonas orders: "Surrender."

The Room's Reaction

Stunned silence, then gasps and murmurs ripple through the gathered leaders. Tammi Li steps closer to Jonas, her hand brushing his arm — total trust. Androve narrows his eyes at the now-blank pedestal, acknowledging both the strategic brilliance and the personal risk. Jon Medaris recoils as if struck, completely silent for the first time in decades, unable to argue or countermand. Jonas's sister and the LMT representatives exchange tense glances of relief, fear, and disbelief — they've seen Jonas operate in crises before, but assuming full command across three militaries is unprecedented. A female tech whispers, "Did... he just...?" An officer mutters, "All hell just changed."

Summary of what Jonas ordered: a tight, white-encrypted burst communication to every military command of the Empire, the NWMG, and the Janastian Warhawks (plus Jonesboro and Peplle military commands) — asserting his sole and full command over all three major forces, directing them to act in unison, and communicating a single word to the enemy fleet: "Surrender."

This is the confirmed origin of the outcome already documented elsewhere in the archive: Maf loses this war against IFTR, but the resulting peace treaty (negotiated by Imperial Negotiators at what becomes known as the Treaty of Starbase 17) proves so favorable — and ultimately so damaging to IFTR's own internal cohesion — that it directly leads to IFTR's collapse into civil war within a decade.
