The War and the Treaty (2005)

In 2005, the New World Maf Government (NWMG) fought — and lost — a brief war (concluded in hours) against the Interstellar Federation of the Terran Republic (IFTR), an authoritarian state controlling roughly 80% of the Milky Way Galaxy, capital at New York on Earth. Peace talks followed for months at Starbase 17 in the Confluence Region, led by the Imperial Negotiators — an elite Empire of Xanydeo and Xanthus corps trained over 10 years before being allowed to go "active." IFTR's delegation, accustomed to dictating rather than bargaining, had no idea what they were facing.

The resulting Treaty of Starbase 17 forced IFTR to cede all territories acquired during the war, plus all prior territories and colonies in the Confluence Region and the wider "Ad Astra" portion of the Milky Way. Only 6 military ships per side could occupy the Confluence Region at any time, and no IFTR-affiliated travel was permitted beyond it into Ad Astra. Because IFTR was a single monolithic government, these restrictions crippled it entirely — while the Balkanized nature of the NWMG and the wider Snickers Galaxy let countless independent Snickers/Maf actors continue colonization and trade unimpeded.

When the IFTR delegation returned to Earth with the signed treaty, the backlash was immediate: government hysteria, public outrage, secession initiatives among IFTR member states, and militant factional splits — setting the stage for the civil war that would eventually dissolve IFTR's government entirely (see The Founding of MACOFS).

The LMT Merger (December 2006 – 2008)

As IFTR's collapse became inevitable, its dominant corporation, LMT, headquartered in New York with trade routes across over 50% of the Milky Way, discovered a "sister" corporation on Kila Vas — also named LMT, run by the same founding family. The two entered merger talks; within months, they became a single corporation spanning both the Milky Way and, via the Kila Vas branch, the Confluence Region, Ad Astra, and the entire Snickers Galaxy. Headquarters transferred from New York to Kila Vas.

Thousands of "LMT Earth" executives and employees transitioned to "LMT Kila Vas," and due to grandfather clauses and seniority, assumed roles previously held by thousands of LMT Kila Vas staff — displacing them. This rankled the Kila Vas side, though there was nothing to be done about it. Named executives who made the transition: Susan Smith, Migdalia Holmes, Ralph Jones, Piers Montgomery, David Anthony, Vertran I'Kala, and the well-liked Sal Susa.

To lead the merged company, LMT's "Fellow Associates" (the true power behind the throne, existing only on Maf, not within LMT Earth's corporate structure) chose a neutral outsider as CEO: Verkanon Meredith, then-President of the major Kila Vas trade/retail company Heszron Interplanetary Products.

By the end of 2008, LMT covered the better part of the Milky Way and was positioned to explore and cultivate trade throughout the Confluence Region, Ad Astra, and the Snickers Galaxy — its wealth and resources dwarfing its nearest competitors by many multiples.

The Corporation Combined Fleet (CCF)

As Kila Vas corporations sought to capitalize on Milky Way chaos while protecting their ships and cargo, LMT led over a dozen powerful corporations — including Heszron Interplanetary Products, DESCO, Vudersoun Corporation, and World Bank — in forming a combined military fleet to escort member trade and cargo ships. ⚠️ This source refers to the fleet as "CCP," which is very likely an error/typo for the confirmed name, Corporation Combined Fleet (CCF) — preserved here as found in the source, but treated as the same organization already established elsewhere as CCF. The fleet declared itself a sovereign, independent star nation, immediately recognized by the newly-formed MACOFS.
