The IFTR First Contact Crisis: July 17, 2005 (Full Text, Part 1)
Type: Narrative — Canon History, Dramatized Scene (Full Text) Status: Canon (confirmed by creator) — full text preserved per archival standard
This is the detailed, dramatized account of Maf's first contact with IFTR (Earth), leading to the 2005 war referenced in The Founding of MACOFS and The Treaty of Starbase 17. This significantly expands those existing pages with the actual first-contact scene. See also The 2005 NWMG Collapse and Jonas's Confrontation with LMT for the "2000 Secret" this narrative directly continues.
Setting: The Quarantine Room
A secured chamber deep within the NWMG capital building, walls embedded with real-time orbital/planetary surveillance screens. Jonas, LMT representatives (including his sister), and senior NWMG officials gather as the crisis unfolds.
Timeline — July 17, 2005, Kila Vas Time
~10:22 PM: A joint NWMG-Empire fleet on long-range patrol, ordered into a tight formation (against Jonas's own published doctrine warning against clustering), detects a large fleet approaching from the Confluence Region — where the Milky Way and Snickers Galaxy intersect. Already, 5 distinct off-world civilizations have been discovered by NWMG/Empire patrols (no official contact made) — though LMT is unofficially already trading with 40.
10:33 PM: X-wave contact with the patrol fleet is lost.
10:35 PM: Long-range sensors detect large anomalous bright lights at the fleet's last position — the light-delay-corrected actual event time.
10:48 PM: The reinforcement fleet's sensors detect significant debris clouds with multiple "heat flare" signals (not point-heat signals characteristic of intact ships) and many large unknown ships maneuvering through the debris. News is forwarded to the Empire, Jonesboro, Thasula, Peplle, and the Janastian Warhawks (who deploy their entire space fleet — only about a dozen warships at this point in their history — to forward positions).
~10:50 PM: 150 joint Empire-NWMG ships are ordered to advance to the patrol fleet's last position. Jonas privately questions who authorized clustering them, given the same vulnerability that likely doomed the first fleet. Holographic images of Empire, Thasula, and joint Jonesboro-Peplle military/political leadership appear, demanding answers. Starbase 17 (NWMG's base in the Confluence Region) reports no contact with unknowns, but confirms the patrol fleet is lost — the anomaly appears localized rather than systemic.
Jonas's orders: disperse the reinforcement fleet into three defensive wings (patrol ships no closer than 50 miles apart); increase sensor sweep sensitivity, deploy AI-assisted drones; activate stealth masking/decoy emissions; maintain hyperspace jump readiness; report sensor readings every 30 seconds. All allied fleets ordered to high alert/wartime footing; all active space forces deployed; crews on rest/port calls recalled; a stealth force prepared to move into the debris field.
Jonas's Advisors Arrive
11:02 PM: Tammi Li Akarin (Jonas's wife, former Commanding Officer of the Empire's Planetary Assault Command) enters with 3 armed guards; General Zarkof Androve follows with 3 more. Jonas notices the guards' plasma rifles show flashing green lights — full auto, safeties off. The briefing restarts for both to hear.
11:15 PM: LMT operatives report all their sensors near the Confluence Region have gone offline simultaneously — either destroyed at once, or blocked by an active interference field across multiple spectrums, implying technology far beyond anything known.
The Private Revelation
11:18-11:23 PM: Jonas's sister asks to speak with him urgently and privately. Jonas deliberately brings Tammi Li and Androve along, telling his sister: "Whatever you have to tell me, I want them to hear." In a sealed, maximally-encrypted side chamber, she reveals:
✅ This is Earth. The Jonesboro Computer predicted over a decade earlier — the "2000 Event," later called the "2000 Secret" — that Earth would discover Maf sometime between 2000 and 2010, and that contact would be hostile, potentially resulting in Maf's conquest, enslavement, and LMT's nationalization. Two weeks before this crisis, the Computer updated its prediction: Earth's discovery of Maf would be "catastrophic" for Maf specifically, with a 97% probability. This fleet left the Milky Way only two months ago — it is not a slow, ancient approach but a rapid modern strike group.
This is a double shock to Tammi Li and Androve: they learn simultaneously that (1) the threat is Earth itself, arriving early, and (2) that Jonas has a sister deeply embedded in LMT's innermost circle — something neither knew about him despite their closeness (Tammi Li believed his family was in Janast; Androve believed they were in Kila Vas). Both react with anger at having been kept in the dark, and Jonas demands: "Every Omega Black file. I want the full 2000 Event dossier, Jonesboro Computer logs, predictive chain, everything. This ends now. No more secrets."
The Massacre
Returning to the main Quarantine Room, the group learns: 85 of the combined NWMG-Empire fleet's ships were destroyed — the entire recon force bar none — with no return fire whatsoever and no survivors or escape capsules. Combined crew losses: ~18,500. 90 enemy ships are confirmed present, with 12 more approaching (2,000-3,000 meters long, heavily armed, most weapons signatures identifiable, some exotic/unclassified). Debris analysis shows no wreckage larger than 50 meters — the fleet "ceased to exist" with no detected muzzle flare, energy surge, or temporal displacement signature.
Jonas orders Red Level Two fleet-wide, seals the external perimeter, prepares fallback routes to Bastion Points Alpha through Delta, brings Lagrange Platform relay links online, and silences all nonessential signals.
The 151-ship reinforcement fleet (mostly destroyers, frigates, and patrol ships) is 15 minutes out via hyperspace. Enemy ships hold position rather than advancing — Androve assesses this not as an ambush but "a message." Jonas: "They know we're coming. They want the reinforcements to arrive."
The Fifteen Minutes
Across the continent, nations mobilize for war against a still- unknown enemy. The Janastian Warhawks deploy their ships to forward points. In the Quarantine Room, commanders and ministers debate in huddled groups — "no-go" options vetoed rapidly ("Can't be done...", "but if we deploy a task force to...", "alerting civilians at this stage would be catastrophic, the panic would be incalculable" — a point of universal agreement).
The reinforcement fleet exits hyperspace 1 million miles from the engagement area — still well within sensor range of any modern system. A voice over comms: "Sir, we have arrived. We are being scanned. Orders?"
