Overview

Thile is a very large nation south of Peplle, over 90% mountainous. It is the only nation with ports on both the eastern ocean and the Great River — these two port regions are connected by railroads running through the mountains.

Home to Garron Vey, a trader who does business across Peplle and the surrounding region.

History & Naming

Thile's traditional, ancient name is "Anais." ✅ This resolves the previously-unidentified region name "Anais" referenced elsewhere in this archive (part of the Chilihof's range). The nation was renamed "Thile" roughly one generation ago by the ruler who took it over, Ziit Amun Thile. Today, his son rules Thile — his name not yet known, expected in later source material.

The True Population (Full Text)

Source: conversations-002.json, "Maf Game Overview" — see RAW SOURCE. Outside estimates put Thile's population at 100-250 million, assumed low due to the mountainous terrain's hazards. The true figure — known to Andrew Johnson alone among outsiders, and to none of the Thilians themselves — is roughly 450 million. Everyone, including most Thilians confined to isolated mountain villages who rarely travel beyond their own community, drastically underestimates the nation. Johnson comes to genuinely admire Thile's people: insular and unfriendly to outsiders, but rugged, capable, and intelligent by sheer necessity — weakness in any respect (against weather, terrain, or the mountains' giant hunting birds, tigers, leopards, bears, and wolves) would be fatal.

Thile also maintains a narrow, hazardous road network supplementing its railroads, necessary because rail simply cannot reach every mountain community — though nearly every community is capable of full self-sufficiency, in practice almost none need to be, since the roads keep supply lines open.
