IFTR (Interstellar Federation of the Terran Republic)

Type: Faction/Nation — Interstellar Empire (Earth-based, historical) Capital: Earth Status: Canon (confirmed via "War of IFTR") — later collapsed, succeeded by the Empire of Man

Overview

By 5300 A.D., Earth — capital of the Interstellar Federation of the Terran Republic (IFTR) — had conquered roughly 80% of the Milky Way galaxy. IFTR possessed vastly superior technology, ship size, and fleet numbers compared to Maf's forces, including the Destiny-class battlecruiser — a 3,000-mile-long capital ship.

The War of IFTR (5300 A.D.)

IFTR discovered the Confluence Region and pushed a fleet of warships through it into the Snickers Galaxy, finding Maf — home to descendants of the "Original Colonists", Terrans who had fled Earth over 3,000 years earlier (consistent with the established Ark Royal exodus from Earth, which departed in 2037). IFTR expected a joyful reunion; the Original Colonists refused.

A single, massive battle followed — origin of the first shot unrecorded. Despite IFTR's overwhelming technological and numerical advantage, Maf's fleet — led by General Perold Jonas and Admiral Vasalo Sutoi — fought with such skill that IFTR appeared to be losing, until three Destiny-class battlecruisers arrived and vaporized hundreds of Maf ships in a single broadside. Jonas and Sutoi called for an immediate ceasefire.

The Peace Treaty — "The Treaty of Starbase 17"

✅ Officially named (per ChatGPT export material — "Kila Vas Financial Growth"): this peace treaty is known to history as the "Treaty of Starbase 17." Confirms IFTR's capital as New York (Earth) and that IFTR controlled ~80% of the Milky Way at the time. Negotiations were held weeks later in orbit around a neutral planet in the Confluence Region. IFTR expected to claim the Snickers Galaxy, the Confluence Region, and Milky Way territory beyond it. Instead, Maf's Imperial Negotiators (trained over a decade in persuasion, near-hypnotic in effect) secured a far better deal than the military outcome warranted:

  • Permanent mutual non-interference between IFTR and Maf
  • No Terran warships permitted into the Snickers Galaxy; no Maf ships permitted into the Milky Way
  • The Confluence Region becomes permanent neutral territory
  • Only 6 ships from either side permitted in the Confluence Region at once; neither side may impose rules on, interfere with, or influence the minor civilizations residing there
  • Maf relinquished its Confluence Region starbases to a new neutral body, the InterGalactic Authority (IGA), headquartered at Maf's former Starbase 17

Collapse

IFTR's leadership realized too late that the treaty permanently barred Earth from Snickers and ceded roughly 20% of the Milky Way (territory beyond the Confluence Region) to Maf's claim — despite Maf never entering the Milky Way or winning the battle. Public and military outrage over "winning the war but losing the peace" caused the Terran government to implode; a decade-long civil war followed, from which the Empire of Man eventually emerged.

  • ✅ RESOLVED: Earth year 5300 A.D. corresponds to approximately Maf year 2005 — see Dating Systems: Earth Years vs. Maf Years. This places the War of IFTR remarkably close to two other major dated events: the Galactic Civil War (Maf ~2006) and MACOFS's founding (Maf 2007) — flagged as a likely-connected cluster, not yet confirmed.
  • Full extent of IFTR's government/history prior to this war not detailed
