The Galactic Civil War
Type: Timeline Event Status: Canon (confirmed by creator)
Overview
The Milky Way dissolves into a galaxy-wide civil war. This is the backdrop for The Hauler's Gambit and likely other stories — rising warlords (e.g. General Kradok), organized pirate factions (e.g. Razor's Reach), and mercenary companies (e.g. Janastian Warhawks) all emerge from this destabilization.
Geography — Confirmed
The Galactic Civil War occurs solely within the Milky Way galaxy — confirmed by the creator. Maf itself is located in the separate Snickers Galaxy, which intersects the Milky Way only at the Confluence Region. This means the Galactic Civil War is geographically distinct not only in era but in galaxy from World War 3 (fought on Norihing, within the Snickers Galaxy). The two "galactic-scale" conflicts in this archive are therefore unrelated wars in different galaxies, not sequential chapters of one larger war.
Dating — Intentional In-Universe Ambiguity
Maf uses Earth-like dates and months (the reason for this is intended to become clear as more source material is processed — not yet documented here).
The official start date of the war is given as Maf year 2006 — however, per the creator, this date is not meant to be accurate in-universe. This is a deliberate design choice, not a documentation error: a kind of "fog of history" / "fog of documentation" baked into the setting, left intentionally for players to notice and question rather than resolved as a continuity error.
⚠️ Archive handling note: Do NOT "fix" this inconsistency if it appears again in other source material with a different date. Instead, log each instance of a stated start date in the table below — the variance is the point.
| Source | Stated Date | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| The Hauler's Gambit | Story events span 2007–2011; war is described as imminent/ongoing throughout | No explicit "war started in X" statement in this story |
| (Official/general reference) | 2006 | Per creator — explicitly flagged as possibly inaccurate in-universe |
Open Questions
- Why Maf uses Earth-like dates — pending explanation from further source material
- Additional stated start dates should be added to the table above as found, not reconciled into a single "true" date
