Corporate Index (Industries/Categories)

Type: Systems — Economy Reference Author: Perry Jones Published: Aug 12, 2023 Source: Medium Status: Canon (published, explicitly marked as a partial sample)

Overview

An index of corporate industries/categories operating across Maf and known space. The creator notes this is a sample only, drawn from memory rather than a complete "Index of Business" — to be expanded later. Confirms there are over 3,000 separate corporations, companies, businesses, mom-and-pop stores, megacorporations, and independent sovereign corporations in the setting, giving useful scale context for entities like LMT.

Industry Categories (sample, not exhaustive)

Accounting Firms · Advertising Agencies · Airlines · Art Galleries · Banks · Casinos · Colleges and Universities · Construction Companies · Consulting Services · Cruise Lines · Engineering Companies · Hospitals · Hotel Chains · Hotels · Information Services · Insurance Companies · Magazines · Malls · Marketing Services · Military Academies · Museums · Newspapers · Private Military Companies · Propulsion Systems · Public Relations Firms · Publishing Companies · Space Construction Companies · Space Services and Equipment · Starship Builders · Transportation Companies

Notable Sub-Articles Referenced (not yet fetched)

The following categories link to their own dedicated Blogspot articles — not yet retrieved (same access limitation as the NPC roster pages):

  • Construction Companies
  • Military Academies
  • Propulsion Systems (Spacecraft and Starship Propulsion)
  • Space Services and Equipment
  • Starship Builders (Starship and Spacecraft Builders)

Worldbuilding Notes

  • Confirms Banks as a formal industry category — consistent with World Bank and LMT's ownership of it
  • "Private Military Companies" as a distinct category from "Military Academies" — relevant once Janastian Warhawks and similar mercenary groups are expanded
  • "Independent sovereign corporations" implies some corporations may hold quasi-national status/autonomy — worth watching for as more corporate lore surfaces
