About "Skits"

The creator has developed short in-universe dramatic reenactments ("skits") of key founding moments in MACOFS's history — a storytelling device bridging formal documents (treaties, charters, constitutions) and player experience, dramatizing the personalities, debates, and compromises behind them. In-universe, these are understood as remembered stories retold by historians, playwrights, or propaganda outlets — part legend, part record, similar to how real-world founding myths (the U.S. Constitutional Convention debates, the Federalist Papers) became part of collective memory. See The MACOFS Constitution for more.

Skit: The Trade Alliance is Proposed

Setting: The great hall of the Constitutional Conference, final days of debate. Delegates are weary after weeks of argument. Jonas presides at the high table.

Jonas (Chair): "The matter of defense, training, and communications is settled for today. Tomorrow, we turn to the closing language of the Treaty. Are there further matters before adjournment?"

(A pause. Delegates shuffle notes. Ravel Magrep rises, slowly.)

Ravel Magrep (Economist of the Empire): "If I may, High Chair. I will not burden this body with another debate — we have endured enough. But I would be remiss if I did not raise a thought for the future."

Jonas (with a tired smile): "Ravel, I trust you to keep it brief. My generals are restless, and my stomach more so."

(Laughter among the delegates.)

Magrep: "Just so. The Treaty before us is a shield — a promise of collective defense. But what of our ploughshares, our merchant fleets, our forges and markets? To stand together in war is noble, yet to prosper together in peace is lasting."

Delegate from Norihing: "You speak of trade, then? That is no small subject."

Magrep: "Indeed. Too large for this hall, and too urgent a time. But I propose this: once the ink dries on the Treaty, let us appoint committees — working groups from among our nations — to begin the study of a Trade Alliance Charter. Not to bind us this day, but to prepare a future where our caravans and freighters move as freely as our fleets."

Jonas (nodding): "A seed planted, then, not a tree demanded."

Delegate from Dagorb (grumbling): "We have no time for such luxuries. Survival first."

Magrep (smiling faintly): "And survival is precisely why such work must follow. An army marches on its stomach, and fleets fly on the coin of merchants. If we prepare now, the Charter will await us when the storms pass."

Jonas (firmly): "Then let it be noted: The proposal for a Trade Alliance is received, and its deliberations postponed. Committees will be called once the Treaty stands. Let that be the record."

(The scribes nod, recording. Magrep bows, content.)

Jonas (raising his hand): "Very well. The hour is late. Let us adjourn, and tomorrow we shall finish the work our peoples demand."

(Delegates rise, murmuring — some intrigued, some dismissive. The stage dims, leaving Magrep alone, gazing thoughtfully at his notes for the future Charter.)
