Haunted Ridge Road

Type: Short Story Author: Perry Jones Published: Oct 29, 2023 Source: Medium Status: Canon (published) — light content, low lore density

Summary

On his way home from a Halloween party (still in a beer-can costume), Oscar drives alone along Ridge Road, a lonely overlook road above Kila Vas, around 2 AM. He encounters the ghost of a woman in old-fashioned dress standing in the road, gazing down at the city lights. The apparition passes through his car, chilling the air, before dissipating at dawn — leaving the previously skeptical Oscar shaken and newly open to the supernatural.

Entities Introduced

• Characters: Oscar (protagonist), Nancy (his girlfriend/date, mentioned but not present — left the party earlier with her friend Karen)
• Location: Ridge Road — a road overlooking Kila Vas from above, apparently the site of a local ghost legend

Worldbuilding Significance

Minor but notable: this story's premise (Oscar, Halloween party, beer-can costume, driving to pick up Nancy) matches a scenario drafted in the ChatGPT export conversation "Playable MMORPG from Concept" — this is the published version of that draft, confirming at least this piece of that conversation's content made it into official canon rather than being an abandoned brainstorm.

Open Questions

• Is Ridge Road tied to any specific in-universe historical event/legend explaining the ghost, or is it left intentionally unexplained?
• Do Oscar or Nancy reappear in other material?
