LMT: Full Corporate History and Nature (Full Text)

See LMT and LMT Earth for the existing shorter pages — this significantly expands LMT's origin, nature, and multi-thousand-year survival logic.
Origin and Founding
✅ Confirmed: LMT was founded nearly 3,000 years ago in New York, Earth. It has survived wars and conflicts, slowly expanding across the galaxy — surviving authoritarian dictators, open governments, closed markets it was expelled from only to return decades later, high and low (and zero) taxes, high and low tariffs, trade wars, and corporate espionage.
Scale and Presence
LMT is not literally everywhere — it operates across only about a third of the Milky Way — but it has operations in every warlord state, and critically, in every location "that matters." It follows a strict survival logic: it enters systems, survives regime changes, withdraws under hostility, and re-enters when conditions stabilize, always repositioning itself as "infrastructure," not authority. It aligns itself with functioning reality rather than ideological preference — needing presence only at the points where systems interface with reality, not total territorial coverage.
The Jonesboro/Kila Vas Lineage
✅ Confirmed sequence: LMT Kila Vas was originally LMT Jonesboro — Jonesboro having been founded by the "Original Colonists" (a name given by the media during the tumultuous 1990s upon discovery of these colonists' true alien/off-world origin). LMT "left Earth" aboard the same ship Jonas was born on — or rather, LMT's concept and technological base did, since the corporation itself continued to exist and operate on Earth in parallel. LMT possessed all of Earth's technology up through 2037, the year the Ark Royal departed.
LMT transferred its headquarters from Jonesboro to Kila Vas in 1990, just 3 years after World War 3 ended. In 2006, as IFTR was disintegrating, LMT Earth merged with LMT Kila Vas — see The Treaty of Starbase 17 and the LMT Earth-Kila Vas Merger for the existing detailed account of this merger.
200,000 "colonists" fled Earth aboard the Ark Royal in 2037, including the first baby born in space — Perold Jones, who later changed his name to Perold Jonas.
The Fellow Associates and the Seeding Program (see also LMT: Scale, Doctrine & Corporate Governance for the formal management structure and internal Vertical/Horizontal factionalism)
LMT's hidden, covert board of directors — the "Fellow Associates" — is a very secretive body that created the "Seeding Program" to accelerate technological change across Maf, thereby forcing markets across nearly every sector to become dominated by LMT products and services. This dominance is not absolute — LMT deliberately avoids inviting attack or backlash of any kind from any body — but the influence is present and real. The Fellow Associates have also shaped regime changes, governmental reorganizations, and framed legislation across many governments, particularly those that "matter" strategically.
The Ethical Duality: Covert Ruthlessness, Public Altruism
LMT is sometimes ruthless, sometimes altruistic — but the two modes are never mixed in visibility: when ruthless, it is always deeply covert; when altruistic, it is always greatly public. This creates a perception-engineered legitimacy gradient — the public associates LMT overwhelmingly with stability and progress, while rarely perceiving its structural influence operations.
LMT's Survival Rule
LMT is simultaneously economic infrastructure, an intelligence substrate, a governance influencer, a technological accelerator, and a historical continuity carrier — yet it avoids becoming a target because it never becomes the sole center of coercive authority in any system it inhabits. This is the core of its multi-millennia survival: it does not control outcomes directly; it shapes the range of outcomes that remain economically and structurally viable, wherever it operates.
LMT as a Passive Intelligence System
LMT has access to logistics, financial flows, military procurement, civilian movement, black-market channels, and even unregistered traffic — meaning LMT sees the shape of any conflict more clearly than any single faction involved in it, potentially including Jonas himself. Every faction — warlords, MACOFS, and everyone in between — tacitly tolerates LMT's observational reach for three converging reasons: dependence (LMT finances governments, supplies fleets, and maintains logistics; shutting it out would collapse one's own system faster than any enemy could); a plausible-deniability framework (a mutually sustained fiction — "it's just commercial data" — that no one wants to be the first to publicly break, since doing so would force mandatory retaliation and fracture alliances); and fear of unknown consequence (no one actually knows how deep LMT's reach or redundancy goes, so the default posture is "do not touch what you cannot map").
Richard Drake's View of LMT
Drake treats LMT not as a threat to remove, but as an environmental constant — something to operate within rather than fight, "like gravity, or time." He deliberately declines to reduce his own dependency on LMT data streams, reasoning that limiting exposure would only mean learning nothing: "They reveal what they consider safe to reveal... and what they consider dangerous to hide." His conclusion: "Let them watch... Let them think this is real. Then we'll find out what isn't."

Open Questions
- Whether LMT is a fully neutral observer or is actively "selecting which versions of history are allowed to remain operational" is posed as a deliberate open thematic question in this source, not resolved
