Overview
Old Downtown is Kila Vas's historic core — the original heart of the city, bounded by ancient "V"-shaped walls built roughly 400 BC to 350 BC (as of the present narrative point). These walls, and the district contained within them, predate essentially everything else documented about Kila Vas's modern rise, giving Old Downtown a character utterly distinct from the rest of the city: a layered history stretching back millennia, now overlaid with waves of industrial development, urban decay, and — most recently — revitalization.
From Industrial Decline to Renewal
For a long stretch of its more recent history, Old Downtown's industrial base — factories, warehouses, and manufacturing facilities — fell empty and obsolete as Kila Vas's economy modernized around it. Rather than being demolished, these spaces were rejuvenated: warehouses and factories converted into innovation hubs, affordable office space and collaborative workspaces for startups and tech companies, colleges (see Colleges and Universities for individually documented institutions like Harborview Technical Institute), bars, coffee shops, restaurants, and music venues.
The College Area
Within Old Downtown, the College Area (also styled "3 College Area") is a specific, especially dense sub-district — home to several colleges and a concentrated nightlife/entertainment scene: bars, coffee shops, restaurants, music venues, nightclubs, shops, and bands, catering heavily to the student population. Student Housing Apartments: modern apartment complexes throughout the College Area provide comfortable and affordable housing options for students attending the nearby colleges, offering a sense of community and a convenient living experience.
The Grandfathered Casinos
