Game Title — Naming History

Type: Meta / Production Note Status: Canon (creator-confirmed)

Current Title

Maf Subtitle/slogan: "The Greatest Game In The World"

Former Title

Maf: Starfleet Battles

Rationale for the Change

Per the creator: "Maf: Starfleet Battles" obscures the game and misdirects players about what it actually is. "Maf" alone is a cleaner, more evocative single-word title — comparable to how EVE Online or World of Warcraft function as standalone brand names rather than literal descriptions of gameplay.

Handling in the Archive

• All new archive entries should refer to the game simply as Maf
• Existing/historical source material (Medium articles, the mafstarfleetbattles.com domain, ChatGPT conversation titles, etc.) will continue to say "Maf: Starfleet Battles" — this reflects the title at the time that material was created and is not an error or contradiction
• When citing or summarizing older source material, note the former title where relevant but use "Maf" going forward in original archive prose
