Sci-Fi City Description Template & Examples

Type: Developer Guidance — City Description Generation Template Status: Reference/template material — mostly AI-generated illustrative examples, not necessarily specific canon locations (see note on Azure Shores below)

Overview

A template/framework for describing large sci-fi metropolises for "Maf: Starfleet Battles," covering: cityscape, technology, population, transportation, environmental controls, and other features. Six example cities were generated to illustrate the format — these are largely open-ended AI-generated samples, not dictated as specific real locations in Maf, with one partial exception (Azure Shores, see below).

Example Cities (illustrative samples)

  1. Neotropolis Prime — crystalline skyscraper metropolis on planet Xyron-9; diverse alien population (Xyronians, Arkanites, Vortigons)
  2. Cybertropolis — cybernetic city on planet Neo-Orion; population of cyber-enhanced "Technosapiens"
  3. Azure Shores — ⚠️ partially user-directed: a subtropical island paradise framed by two large harbors 20 miles apart — one industrial (shipbuilding/cargo, named Port Technora), one recreational (white sand beaches, marina, resort hotels, restaurants). The specific harbor arrangement and purposes were explicitly dictated by the creator; the rest of the description (city name, downtown layout) was AI-generated to fill in the creator's framework.
  4. Novacore Citadel — a magic-meets-technology city built in a crater, home to an "Academy of Arcane Sciences"
  5. Heliostris Prime — a solar-powered desert metropolis
  6. Aquaterra Haven — an underwater city, home to merfolk and genetically-modified aquatic humans

Also Generated: Quest Hooks

Sample quest hooks were generated for Neotropolis Prime (corporate espionage, a native uprising, a tech heist) and Cybertropolis (a digital plague, a missing AI researcher, underground gladiator games) — illustrative examples of the quest-hook format, not dictated as established in-universe events.

Open Questions

  • Whether any of these 6 example cities (particularly Azure Shores, given its more specific dictated detail) should be promoted to full canon location status is undetermined — flagged for creator confirmation
