Overview

Propulsion Officer aboard the Ark Royal during its journey from Earth to Maf. Led the ship's rapid deceleration upon discovering the planet later named "New Hope" (Maf), calculating an orbital insertion using gravitational drag from other planets in the system plus a brief high-gee deceleration burn.

When the ship's maneuvering drives failed during final approach — revealed to be running at only ~10% power from lingering damage sustained during the Russian missile strikes three years earlier — Naerus proposed the desperate last-resort plan that ultimately saved the ship: firing the retro rockets and every still-mounted shuttle's engines simultaneously, stern-first, to slow the ship's descent enough to survive atmospheric entry.
